Moncayo Natural Park

  • Moncayo Natural Park

The Moncayo is the mountain “par excellence” of the Zaragoza Province landscape. Everyone attempts to see its mythical summits from any high spot of the province, and children learn very early on how to distinguish its silhouette, which rises solemnly up between steppes and valleys.

Its powerful presence has marked the future of those who have settled at its feet throughout history. For centuries, the most important town of its “Somontano” or foothills has been Tarazona.

The Moncayo was considered to be a magical mountain in Olden Times, and is housed in the Nature Reserve of Dehesa del Moncayo, a luxuriant park that assembles more than 1300 plant species related to very different environments, staggered in height, as well as abundant fauna. A Park Interpretation Centre has been created in Agramonte¸ from where the routes set off to ascend the skirts of the colossus to the highest summits of the Iberian System, crowned with snow practically all year round.
