Formigal Ski Resort

  • Formigal View

The ski resort of Formigal is located in the Aragonese Pyrenees. It's a lively purpose-built resort suitable for beginners, intermediate skiers and families. You don't come here to rub shoulders with the rich and famous but it's a friendly and relaxed resort with good facilities provided at considerably lower prices than in the better known winter playgrounds of the Alps.

The immaculately groomed pistes, with unsurpassable levels of safety and comfort, are equipped with a high-capacity lift system and comfortable hands-free lift passes incorporate a system which prevents inadvertent access to slopes beyond the abilities of the skier.

In the search for excellence, Formigal constantly updates its facilities and activities to offer all the latest trends in winter sports. New Freeride areas have been added as well as a second Snowpark. The new Terrain Park offers freestyle, snow-biking, snow mobiles, dog-sledding and bump skiing.

There are also new cross-country and snowshoe circuits. For the more daring, the Bordercross area has marked tracks with banked turns for the exhilaration of high-speed competitive descent while the snowparks cater specifically for snowboarders.

From the adrenalin-charged experience of driving a dog-sled or skidoo to enjoying a drink on the panoramic sun-deck, there is something for everyone in Formigal. There are original and entertaining activities such as the Nanook experience or hands-on activities for children and families, and the unique experience of night skiing.

The village of El Formigal is 170 kilometres north of Zaragoza's international airport and about 380 kilometres north west of the bigger airport at Barcelona which serves all the major European capitals with charter and schedule flights. It's just eight kilometres from the French border and shares the Tena Valley with the neighbouring resort of Candanchu. Formigal is a resort with the atmosphere of a traditional mountain village where modern four-star hotels blend in with the traditional local architecture.

The key to Formigal’s success is its privileged location. A stone’s throw from the slopes means that a skiing holiday can be combined with winery visits and wine-tasting, a round of golf on an Olazábal-designed golf course, excursions to local places of interest and picture-postcard beauty, La Cuniacha wildlife park, ice-skating and shopping trips.
